Happy Spring!

Hello parents and students! Happy first day of Spring! We have a very busy week ahead of us. Monday and Wednesday are regular days for us with no interruptions.

Tuesday morning at 9:00 we have Play Day outside on the track. Our students will be competing against the other first grade classes in a number of relays. The students were able to choose the events in which they wanted to compete and they are each in 5 or 6 different relays. Parents are definitely invited to attend, so please come out and join us! Don't forget to sign in at the front office before you come out to the track! Another reminder...please make sure that your child is wearing sneakers on Tuesday. For safety reasons, he or she will not be able to compete in the relays if they are wearing any other type of shoe.

Thursday, we are going on our field trip to the JSO Sheriff's barn. Once again, please make sure your child is wearing his/her green Bartram Springs shirt (or another green shirt if you don't have the BSE one) and sneakers. Also, please make sure that you send a bag lunch and drink with your child. It is supposed to be fairly warm on Thursday, so if you would like to send an extra water bottle, that would be great! Also, it is extremely important that you have your child to school ON TIME on Thursday. We are leaving by 9:00 and if your child is not there, he/she will not be able to attend the field trip.

Finally, Friday is a teacher planning day and the start of Spring Break for the students. YAY!! We are all getting spring fever and it will be nice to have a little rest. Please make sure that your child reads every day over Spring Break. Also, please continue to ask him/her questions about what they are reading. Ask them to retell the story, ask them to name the characters, ask them to tell what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story. All of these questions require them to THINK about what they are reading. It will also let you know whether or not they are really understanding what they are reading. Word calling may sound like reading, but it isn't. Comprehension is the most important part of reading.

Have a wonderful week and enjoy your Spring Break! The secret word for this week is, of course, SPRING!!
