Good morning!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend! We couldn't have asked for any better weather. I hope everyone enjoyed it because it looks like we are in for a sloppy week! Report cards will go home tomorrow, February 1st. Please remember to sign the slip at the bottom and return it WITH the yellow envelope. We do all that we can to recycle those envelopes! This week, we are continuing in math with strategies for addition. When looking over one of the lessons from last week, I noticed that many of the students struggled with it, so I will be re-teaching it today. The Weekly Skills Test and the Selection Test from last week will go home today. Please go over it with your child and make sure to sign and return it to me so that I can have a record of it. There were some careless mistakes on a few of the tests, so please also talk to your child about taking his/her time and doing the best that they can!

We will celebrate the 100th day of school on Thursday of this week. Please remember to send in your assigned item for our celebration by tomorrow (February 1st).

I must go to a workshop tomorrow (Tuesday) so I will not be in class. The guest teacher will be Mrs. "A" who they have had before. She is very good with the students, so I know they will do just fine! The secret word for this week is initiative. That is our school character trait for the month of January. The winner of the Character Counts award for January was Sydney Campbell. Congratulations, Sydney!

Until next time, StAy BuGgY!!

We're Back!

Well, January has been kind of lumpy bumpy with the shortened weeks and days off! Now we are rolling again and everyone is continuing with forward progress. We have had a LOT of sickness in the classroom, so please monitor your child. If he/she has had fever (un-medicated) or vomiting within 24 hours, PLEASE keep him/her at home. We talk a lot about sharing, but sickness is one thing we do NOT want to share!

Report cards will come home on February 1st. If, at that time, you would like to schedule a conference to discuss your child's progress, please contact me at mullerl1@duvalschools.org to schedule. I am happy to meet with you before school or after school. First grade is becoming much more difficult and demanding, so please continue to have your child do his/her homework and turn it in. Also, be sure to go over tests when they come home to see what your child may be struggling with.

We are blending words, working on new vocabulary, learning different strategies for adding to 18, and writing functional (or how-to) papers. We are BUSY!! It is extremely important that you have your child to school on time every day. It is very difficult to make up a lesson that they either missed entirely or came in late on.

As always, it is my pleasure and privilege to teach your child. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.

**Secret word: addend - ask your child what this is!!

Updates January 10-14

Good afternoon, everyone! I'm so sorry that I had a blonde moment and forgot to update the blog for today! Believe me, I heard about it from my little bugs today. I just let them know that this proves that EVERYONE makes mistakes!

Tomorrow is early dismissal, so if your child is a car-rider, please don't forget to pick them up at 1:45! Also, I will not be here on Friday, so the students will have a guest teacher. It is so difficult for me to leave them in the hands of someone else, but sometimes it is unavoidable! The greatest thing is that I never have to worry whether or not they are behaving because they are the BEST class at Bartram Springs Elementary.

This week we are reviewing contractions and working on spelling long i words. Have your child explain to you what that "bossy e" does to the vowel in the words on the spelling list. Please continue to work with your child on the spelling words every night. The hope is that not only will he/she learn how to spell new words, but it will transfer over into their reading and writing.

In writing, we are working on functional writing. This is also called "how to" writing. The students are writing the steps of how to do something that they are an expert at.

Have a wonderful week and stay BuGgY!!

Welcome back!

Happy Sunday, everyone! I'm so excited to see all of my angels tomorrow. I have missed you! I hope everyone has had a safe and fabulous holiday! I also hope that all of you have stayed well. We had a lot of germs floating around the classroom during our last week together.

We are welcoming a new student this week. His name is Carmari and we want to make him feel very comfortable and open our hearts and arms to him! Let's all show him how BuGgY we are about learning and about Bartram Springs Elementary!

We are going to hit the ground running this week as we have a lot to cover in the next couple of weeks. Please make sure to bring your thinking caps and your good attitudes! Homework will go home tomorrow and will be due back on Friday. Please make sure that your child completes ALL of the homework, including the book report. Also, please spend a little bit of time every day working on spelling words. It is not very time consuming, but it pays big dividends, especially in your child's reading and writing.

The secret word for this week is winter! Until next time, stay buggy and enjoy your week!
